Thursday, 8 March 2012
The Accommodation Forum chaired by Hospitality NZ chief executive Bruce Robertson met on Friday 2 March 2012 to discuss issues impacting the accommodation sector. A number of industry updates were presented to the forum including the attendance of the Associate Minister of Tourism, Chris Tremain.
The Accommodation Forum is an informal grouping of all the organisations representing accommodation interests in New Zealand. Hospitality NZ, Motel Association, Tourism Industry Association, NZ Hotel Council, Holiday Accommodation Parks Association of NZ, NZ Lodges Association, Bed and Breakfast Association and YHA NZ (representing backpackers sector).
The forum was represented with sector updates including an update from Associate Minister of Tourism, Chris Tremain. National president, Adam Cunningham presented the online business tool Hospro that help SMEs benchmark their business performance against similar businesses across New Zealand. Adam explained how in the future, Hospro could be used for the accommodation sector.
Sector updates also included presentations by Tourism NZ chairperson, Kerry Prendergast and chief executive, Kevin Bowler. Kevin and Kerry updated the group on the future marketing focus, market conditions and the retention of the 100% Pure brand.
Joanna Pohatu from MAF briefed the group on the content of the Food Bill, and issues of public concern. It appears that the Bill will not be further considered until later in the year.
