The LCQ Bridging Test is for you

The LCQ Bridging Test is a FREE online test that updates LCQ holders who trained under the Sale of Liquor Act 1989 and tests their knowledge of changes in the legal obligations under the new Sale and Supply of Alcohol Act 2012 that came into effect on December 18th 2013.

If you hold your LCQ under the Sale of Liquor Act and are applying or renewing your General Manager's Certificate you will need to complete the LCQ Bridging Test to demonstrate knowledge of the Sale and Supply of Alcohol Act 2012.

LCQ courses available

Delivered by a registered and accredited provider for Omega Hospitality and Retail, this LCQ course covers both NZQA units 4646 and 16705.

On completion you will gain a LCQ certificate which proves you have comprehensive knowledge of the Sale and Supply of Alcohol Act (2012) and understand the requirements to provide a safe responsible drinking environment. LCQ is the prescribed qualification for any person who is applying for or renewing their General Managers Certification.

How much does it cost?

The cost for Hospitality NZ members is $195 (excl GST) per person and $235 (excl GST) for non-membe rs. This covers the course, workbook, assessment and the LCQ certificate.

Licence Controller Qualification

By law, every hospitality business that sells alcohol must have a properly qualified person as the Duty Manager at all times. The prescribed qualification is the Licence Controller Qualification (LCQ) and it must be held by people applying for or renewing their General Manager’s certificate in order to demonstrate recent and relevant training as set out in the Sale and Supply of Alcohol Act (2012).

The LCQ covers two unit standards. Successfully completing these unit standards demonstrates knowledge of the Sale and Supply of Alcohol Act (2012) and its implications for licensed premises, and knowledge of host responsibility requirements as a duty manager of licensed premises.



How to get your LCQ

A training provider will run a course that will help you get your LCQ. You can find a training provider in your region by contacting Service IQ on 0800 863 693 or visit the ServiceIQ website.

The District Licensing Committee (the liquor licensing section of your local city or district council) at your local Council will also have a list of providers in your area.



How to get your General Manager's Certificate

When you get your LCQ Certificate from Service IQ you must then apply for your General Manager's Certificate through the District Licensing Committee.
